Em
In printing terms it is a square unit with edges equal in
size to the chosen point size. It gets its name from the letter
M which originally was as wide as the type size.
Em
Dash
A dash used in punctuation the length of one em.
Em
Space
A space the width of one em.
Embossing
Indenting an image, word or shape in or onto a board giving
a raised printing surface. An embossed area that is not printed
is referred to as a blind emboss.
Emulsion
The dyes which produce the image in a photograph or on film.
En
A unit of measurement that is half as wide as an em.
En
Space
A space the width of one en.
End
Papers
The four page leaves at the front and end of a book which
are pasted to the insides of the front and back covers (boards).
Expanded
Type
A typeface with a slightly wider body giving a flatter or
stretched appearance.
